Source: Zach, Karen Bazzani   Montgomery County Medicine Men (and Women).  Crawfordsville: Montgomery County,, Indiana: 2002.

According to a descendant of Isaac Andress, the doctor, was born August 29, 1830 in Cincinnati, Ohio during a brief stay of his parents, Jonathan R. and Matilda.  At age 17, he served as an apprentice wood carder for 3 years with Joseph Beatty in Switzerland County, Indiana.  This was in exchange for nine months of schooling and two suits of clothes.  On August 19, 1854, he married Lucinda Frakes in Ohio County, Indiana.  The couple lived in Indianapolis from 1856-1873 where three sons were born: Harvey B., Philander S. and John Robert.  Andress returned to Browns Valley area where he practiced medicine and taught school until his death January 16, 1881.  He was a gentlemanly Christian man and as a point of interest, noen of his sons took up any of his professions, but instead were a barber; cigar maker and actor!
